Your First Treatment
What happens in your first session?
Your first appointment starts with an in-person intake, where we talk through your issue and the circumstances around it. From there, we move into a full hands-on treatment tailored to what came up. Alongside the treatment, I teach you the tools and techniques you’ll use on yourself at home between appointments; all accessible, no background knowledge or homework required.
FAQ
Will it hurt?
No. The tools and techniques can sometimes feel uncomfortable, and I try to keep everything in mild-to-medium annoying territory, not painful.
Do I need a background in medicine or massage to understand this or do it right?
Nope. I developed this framework specifically to be accessible to the layperson with no background knowledge.
How many appointments will I need?
I can’t tell you that without first hearing your intake and assessment. It typically takes folks about 3–4 sessions to feel comfortable doing the techniques on themselves at home.
What if I need more help at home?
Returning patients who have the tools at home can book a telehealth appointment with me, where I guide you through pressure, tool selection, technique, and other support.
What if a home technique doesn’t feel right?
It’s ok to pause on it until our next session in person. In all our work, you are the driver and the primary reporter. If a technique or tool doesn’t feel right to you that day (in clinic or at home), we’ll find another one. Even if that technique or tool was great on another visit. The model for treatment is adaptable by design, and built to adjust to changing needs.
Do I have to choose which tools you’ll use on me?
Nope! I obsessively studied these principles and frameworks so you don’t have to. You bring in your issue and your comfort levels, and I’ll choose the tools and techniques. Together we create your recovery plan.
What should I wear?
Doesn’t matter. You’ll be undressed, laying on a treatment table, tucked into cushy layers. There is draping during the session; nothing is uncovered or treated that you’re uncomfortable with.
Is this covered by insurance?
Not directly, but I take HSA/FSA cards, and I’m happy to supply a detailed receipt so you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement.
How should I prepare beforehand?
Be hydrated, and not too full; avoid coming right after a large meal.
What about afterward?
Leave plenty of time afterward for a nap, relaxation, or an early bedtime. Follow this link for more information regarding After Your Treatment.
How do I book?
Click here to book your Initial Treatment for New Patients. It’s 90 minutes long. After that, you can book any other appointment, whether 60 or 90 minutes.
Can a support person come with me?
Yes, absolutely, just let me know ahead of time so I can make accommodations.
Can I record the session?
No. These techniques are my invention, and while I’m happy for you to write notes for yourself, I don’t allow voice or video recording.
